Definition – Female Aesthetic Genital Surgery
Aesthetic female genital surgery or female genital cosmetic surgery, includes a range of procedures designed to enhance the appearance and/or functionality of the female genitalia. These interventions can target aesthetic issues, such as the appearance of the labia minora, clitoral hood, labia majora, mons pubis, or vaginal opening, as well as functional issues like discomfort or pain.
LABIAPLASTY (LABIA MINORAPLASTY)
What is Labia Minoraplasty?
This is a surgical procedure which removes excess of skin from your inner lips to make it more aesthetic. This is commonly combined with clitoral hoodplasty so as to make the clitoris more visible.
It is important to note that labia minora come in various shapes and sizes and therefore the surgical procedure is individualized and tailored to the patient’s needs so as to make the genital area more attractive. Labiaplasty in Kolkata – What to Expect
- Your surgery will be done under local anesthesia without any form of sedation so that you would be able to go back home immediately after the procedure.
- The area is cleaned and markings are done for labiaplasty.
- Additional markings for clitoral hood reduction would also be done if needed.
- Local anesthesia would then be applied.
- After a waiting period, the surgery would be done.
- You would then be discharged home.
- Rarely, in patients with large labia majora, labia majoraplasty may be added to labia minoraplasty.
Reduction Procedures
- Trim Procedure – Trimming of the outer edges of the labia minora are done to invert the edges inside.
- Wedge Procedure – In this technique, a wedge shaped tissue is removed from both sides of the labia minora.
Complications

Post-Operative Advice
- Clean the operative area gently with lukewarm water and soap, do not rub.
- Take high fiber diet so that constipation and thereby straining is avoided.
- Wipe your genital area with a clean cloth and then apply an antibiotic cream as directed.
- Wear loose undergarments.
- Light work can be started after 3-4 days.
- Heavy work including gym can be started after 3-4 weeks.
- Sex can be started after 4-6 weeks as per your comfort.

HYMENOPLASTY
What is Hymenoplasty?
The inner aspect of the vaginal opening is normally covered by a thin membrane also known as the hymen. Breakage of the hymen can occur after sexual intercourse, horse riding, tampon insertion, cycling, vigorous exercise and so on.
Hymenoplasty or hymen rebuilding surgery is a surgery done to reattach portions of the broken hymen. It is not able to restore virginity however, but many women want this procedure for emotional, religious, cultural and social reasons.

- Local anesthesia is then given using a very fine needle so that the pain encountered is minimal.
